The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA), in collaboration with the City of Burnaby and Burnaby RCMP, proudly hosted a successful Fraud Prevention and Electronics Recycling Event on March 28, 2025, at the Burnaby Eco-Centre. Organized in support of Fraud Prevention Month 2025, the event raised awareness about the increasing risk of data fraud while promoting secure and responsible electronic recycling.
From 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, local residents, business owners, and community leaders came together to learn about protecting personal and business data while supporting sustainable technology reuse. As digital technology continues to advance, the secure disposal of outdated electronics is more critical than ever. This event provided attendees with the knowledge and tools to take meaningful action.
Event Highlights
On-Site Hard Drive Shredding
Participants observed hard drives being securely shredded on-site, offering immediate reassurance that their sensitive data was permanently destroyed and protected from data breaches or identity theft.
Electronics Collection for Reuse and Recycling
Thanks to the community’s enthusiastic participation, ERA collected a wide range of electronic devices including laptops, desktops, and mobile phones. Devices in working condition will be refurbished and donated to local charities and nonprofits through ERA’s donation program. Non-functional items will be ethically recycled to minimize environmental impact.
Fraud Prevention Education
Experts from the Burnaby RCMP and data security professionals delivered valuable presentations on how to recognize and prevent fraud. Attendees gained practical strategies for safeguarding information both at home and in the workplace.
