“I am so grateful to be able to see firsthand the impact this effort will have on those who need assistance most.” – Clare Jennings, CBABC President 21/22

Last Spring, the Canadian Bar Association British Columbia Branch (CBABC) partnered with the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) for the A2J Tech Drive to assist individuals in rural and remote settings obtain access to legal services by closing the gap and providing needed electronic devices.

As a result of the partnership, we were able to bring in more than 180 donated items.  Together we donated 5 refurbished laptops to Upper Skeena Counselling, to help residents of Hazelton, BC.

The UPPER SKEENA COUNSELLING & LEGAL ASSISTANCE SOCIETY (USCLAS) was created in 1977 in response to the over-representation of First Nations people in conflict with the justice system. The Gitxsan and Wet’suwet’en people were especially at risk due to their isolation from legal services. People being incarcerated without access to legal advice or legal information. As the CBABC continues to advocate for fair access to justice across all of BC, they are grateful to see the willingness of the legal profession to step up, recycle, and support our local communities.
