Police partner with Electronic Recycling Association to dispose of unwanted items
March is Fraud Prevention Month, and the Saugeen Shores Police and the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) are partnering to help citizens protect their private information after data destruction.
The two agencies are hosting a “safe destruction” event on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Plex, 600 Tomlinson Drive, Port Elgin, ON, N0H 2C0.
Citizens are invited to bring unwanted electronic devices such as hard drives, computers, laptops, phones, tapes and other small devices storing sensitive data, where they will be securely destroyed for free.
Electronics will be destroyed on site to prevent data being recovered from old equipment.
Those unable to attend the event are invited to visit electronicrecyclingassociation.ca/how-it-works/ for drop-off instructions and locations.

About the Electronic Recycling Association
Established in 2004, ERA is a non-profit organization committed to reducing the environmental impact of improperly discarded toxic electronic waste by offering accessible services to help corporations and individuals manage their retiring IT assets. ERA offers industry leading data erasure services, prompt and professional corporate pickup services and detailed reporting. With reuse being ERA’s top priority, every item that is received is examined for any remaining productive life and, if possible, refurbished for reuse. True end of life items are transferred to accredited recyclers where a nil landfill contribution can be assured. ERA is committed to supporting local charities and individuals in need through their comprehensive, Canada-wide technology donation program.
