The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) has partnered with Realstar to launch a Residential E-Waste Collection initiative at over 150 properties across Canada.
Residents of Realstar are invited to drop off their unwanted electronics in designated bins within their apartment buildings. All reusable equipment will either be refurbished to support ERA’s Canada-wide computer donation programs, or passed on to ERA’s accredited recycling partners for responsible final processing.
Electronic waste has been a focus of the Canadian government for almost 19 years. It is recognized as a major source of pollution, and can often have toxic components. As Canadians continue to buy more electronic devices, e-waste accumulates. In 2010, around 224,000 tonnes of e-waste was created in Canada.
A majority of households have old electronics kicking around. The ERA & Realstar E-Waste Collection initiative is a joint effort to address the growing e-waste problem we are facing in Canada and create awareness around the matter.
Our partnership will kick off in April in honour of Earth Month and will continue throughout year as we celebrate and honour days like Environment Day, Ozone Day, & Waste Reduction week.
