residents on the risks of data breaches, the importance of secure data destruction,

and the benefits of responsible electronic waste disposal.

Event Details:

  • Date: March 28, 2025

The Growing Threat of Data Fraud

As our reliance on digital technology grows, the risk of data fraud and identity theft

increases. Improperly discarded electronic devices – such as hard drives, laptops,

desktops, and smartphones – can store sensitive personal and corporate data. If not

securely destroyed, this data can be accessed by unauthorized individuals, leading to

potential fraud, financial loss, and security breaches.

To help mitigate this risk, ERA, in partnership with local law enforcement and

community organizations, is offering an exclusive opportunity for residents and

businesses to dispose of their old electronics safely and responsibly.

Event Highlights:

  • Secure Hard Drive Shredding – On-site data destruction services ensure that confidential information is permanently erased.
  • Electronics Collection & Responsible Recycling – Drop off your obsolete or unwanted electronic devices for secure recycling or refurbishment for donation.
  • Expert-Led Fraud Prevention Awareness – Gain insights from industry professionals on how to safeguard your personal and business data.
  • Community & Law Enforcement Engagement – Interact with fraud prevention specialists and City of Burnaby representatives to learn best practices for digital security.
