At the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA), we believe that access to technology is a cornerstone of education and opportunity. Through our commitment to electronic recycling, we were proud to repurpose 12 laptops and donate them to Shelter Them Poverty Relief, a Brampton-based charity working tirelessly to support underprivileged children in Gateko Village, Rwanda.
Bridging the Digital Divide
In 2021, Shelter Them Poverty Relief opened an Early Childhood Education Centre in Gateko Village, providing a strong foundation for 90 young learners aged 3 to 6 years. Now, as the charity focuses on advancing the education of over 100 children in primary, secondary, and post-secondary levels, the need for technological resources, including laptop donations, has become vital.
For older students, access to computers is crucial for academic success and skill development, yet the charity’s limited resources have made it challenging to meet this need. Operating entirely with volunteers in Canada and allocating 100% of funds to their initiatives in Rwanda, Shelter Them Poverty Relief exemplifies dedication to breaking the cycle of poverty through education.
The Impact of ERA’s Laptop Donation
Through our electronic recycling program, ERA was able to refurbish and donate 12 laptops to this inspiring cause. These devices will provide the children under Shelter Them’s care with the tools they need to thrive in school and beyond. The laptops will enable students to enhance their learning, complete assignments, and explore opportunities that were previously out of reach.
The laptops will accompany Shelter Them’s volunteer team, which travels to Rwanda annually, ensuring the devices are delivered directly into the hands of the children who need them most.
Why Electronic Recycling Matters
This donation highlights the importance of recycling electronics to create opportunities and reduce e-waste. By giving new life to unused laptops and computers, we not only support education but also contribute to environmental sustainability.
