Schlumberger Donates 4 Laptops to the Recovery Acres Society

By electronic recycling association July 8, 2021

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) would not be able to assist as many charitable organizations in need without the help of clients like Schlumberger. Together, we donated 4 laptops to the Recovery Acres Society in Edmonton which will be given to clients who are gracefully transitioning back to regular life after suffering the consequences of an undesirable lifestyle.

The energy industry is changing, and Schlumberger’s vision is to define and drive high-performance sustainability. As a leading energy service company, responsible environmental and social stewardship is an integral part of the way they operate.

Recovery Acres provides a residential treatment program with no barriers for men in the Edmonton community who suffer from drug and alcohol addiction. Their mission is to support program graduates who still need help with a comprehensive residential aftercare program to ensure their continued success by providing a safe, sober, supportive transitional housing for men in the community who need a place to begin their new lives.

Trauma and addiction are often synonymous—it is rare to find instances of one without the other. Research shows the strong link between trauma and addiction and how it can trigger relapse. At Recovery Acres all of their programing is designed to uncover the underlying root causes of addiction and they focus specifically on trauma in an intensive two week program as part of our Addiction and Relapse Prevention Modules. Counsellors help their clients explore the effects of trauma on their lives and how trauma impacts their addiction, giving them tools to help regulate their emotions and prevent relapse.

Electronic recycling in Edmonton is simple with the team here at the Electronic Recycling Association. We take all electronic devices, refurbish them, and then hand them to one of our many Canadian charities. Our model is aimed at helping reduce the amount of e-waste in the country, while also helping people in need. You can make a difference to your community and the environment with our programs and service.

We believe that reuse before recycling is critical in managing the waste created by computer hardware, and by offering industry-leading data destruction for all equipment we receive, we have securely repurposed hundreds of tons of equipment. Because not everything ERA receives can be reasonably repurposed, we have partnered with certified recycling organizations to process equipment that has reached the end of its productive life.
