The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is proud to announce the donation of 7 laptops to the Spinal Cord Injury Alberta (SCI Alberta). Many of their clients are on fixed incomes and cannot afford a computer. They have many peer programs that are offered via virtual means and a laptop will help give those individuals ongoing support.
SCI Alberta strives to achieve its mission and provides the best service possible through a focus on five core service areas which include:
- Client Support and Service Coordination
- Community Development and Systemic Changes
- Peer Program
- Information Services
- Active Living
SCI Alberta support its clients through many challenging transitions, including relationships, sexuality, parenting, aging, recreation, education, employment, etc. Through committee participation, SCI Alberta also assists communities to become more inclusive by creating awareness of critical issues such as accessible transportation, housing, healthcare and other supports.
In 2010, there were an estimated 86,000 survivors of SCI in Canada with approximately 4,300 additional new injuries each year. In Alberta, there was an estimated additional 186 new spinal cord injuries in 2010. It is estimated that by 2030, the number of Canadians living with spinal cord injury is expected to climb to 121,000 due to the aging of the Canadian population and more injuries occurring as a result of falls. The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is a non-profit organization founded in 2004 to address the growing problem of e-waste and the increasing ‘digital divide’. For over fifteen years, ERA has offered simple solutions to help individuals and organizations prevent operational equipment from premature destruction.
With a focus on recovery, refurbishment and reuse, ERA continuously supplies charitable groups with donated IT equipment while securely managing the retiring IT assets of organizations and individuals across Canada. We believe that reuse before recycling is critical in managing the waste created by computer hardware, and by offering industry-leading data destruction for all equipment we receive, we have securely repurposed hundreds of tons of equipment.
Because not everything ERA receives can be reasonably repurposed, we have partnered with certified recycling organizations to process equipment that has reached the end of its productive life. Call us at 1877-9EWASTE to book a pickup today!
