South Vancouver Neighbourhood House (SVNH) is a community-based organization that focuses on connecting people and strengthening the neighbourhoods in South Vancouver. Their mandate is to develop harmonious relationships among community groups of different cultural, economic, religious, and social backgrounds. Programs and services are determined by conditions within each community and by the needs and interests of the people living in that community.
“I would also like to sincerely thank you for your generosity during this difficult time. Your generous contribution to South Vancouver Neighbourhood House (SVNH) has made a tremendous difference in the lives of so many individuals and families who struggled with food insecurity and social isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic. By joining together with SVNH and your neighbours to help the most vulnerable residents in Killarney, Victoria-Fraserview, and Sunset, you have shown what it means to be a good neighbour. The team at SVNH has been overwhelmed by community response: people volunteering their time, donating food, making financial contributions, and working hard to connect those who need a hand with supports and services. This is true neighbourliness and leadership. We cannot thank you enough.”
SVNH currently offers a variety of programs and services that support individuals and families, such as Seniors’ Wellness, Youth Leadership, Licensed Preschool and Out-of-School Care, Parenting and Family Resource Programs, Settlement Services for Newcomers, Food Security, Literacy, Adult Day Programs, Community Engagement Events, and more. Each year, around 5,600 individuals participate in our programs, which are run in partnership with almost 700 volunteers.
ERA recently donated 3 printers to SVNH, but they are also requesting 6 laptops and we are working to help them. The COVID-19 pandemic has certainly been a painful experience for everyone. With business shutting down in bulk & employees forced to work from home, the need for personal computers has grown considerably. Despite the drastic decrease in the amount of inventory from businesses ERA is working diligently to fulfill requests for devices. In order to help individuals struggling due to COVID-19 to study and work from home.
For over 16 years, ERA’s mission has been to reduce electronic waste and the negative impact it has on our environment. We do this by reusing unwanted electronic devices through recovery, refurbishment, and donation programs. SVNH is just one of the many charities that ERA has been able to provide IT devices to.
If you have laptops that you are no longer using, consider dropping them off at one of ERA’s 7 Depots nation-wide. With technology updating each year, many people purchase a brand-new device while their old one still has years of usable life still left. Our focus at the ERA is to extend electronic devices’ lifespans in order to donate them to non-profits, charities, schools, care centers, and individuals in need. Check out our list of charities in need and choose who you would like to receive your unwanted computers.
